July Wedding

Following any good Bachelorette Party is a wedding of course, and what a beautiful day it was for Melissa and Tom to get married!


A reception was held at the Taste of Alaska Lodge where flowers were blooming, and people were soaking in the sun.



There was even a guest appearance by a moose. (No picture because, per usual, I didn't get my camera out in time.) I asked Melissa and Tom how much they paid that moose to come walking up to the reception, but they wouldn't tell me.

What wedding would be complete without dancing? Well, actually I guess that depends on your religion, but this wedding certainly wasn't one where you could keep your feet still!

Bachelorette Party!

Yup, it was a girl party at the Upper Chatnika campground to celebrate Melissa's last weekend as a single woman.

Fun, fun, fun!! We played a few games, which I won't go into detail about, nor should I probably share most of the pictures...


...the traditional Bridal Run that has become so famous among the bridal parties was performed, gifts were opened...

...and we just generally had a great time eating and hanging out until the wee hours of the morning.

You Know You're In Alaska When...

You know you’re in Alaska when the forecast for overnight is mostly sunny.

Truly, that's the forecast tonight. I can't make this stuff up, people.

Happy Birthday, Dianna!!

This past weekend my friend Jeremy hosted a birthday party for his wife Dianna who has been out of town training with the Army in Fort Bliss, Texas. Needless to say, it was 'Bliss'tering hot in Texas, so she was glad to be back in Alaska, although it hasn't exactly been cool here. No matter because everyone had a great time celebrating Dianna's Birthday at a mid-summer cook-out.


And of course, no party would be complete without a tickle monster named Elyse!

Midnight Sun Run

One of the most popular ways in town to celebrate the Summer Solstice is to attend the Midnight Sun Run. This is a 10K race that weaves through the western side of Fairbanks. Some racers wear costumes, and some spectators bring all of their living room furniture out into thier yards to be comfortable while they watch the race go by their houses. Pretty much anything goes.


The lazy group (aka support crew) consisting of Duff, Tim, Mette, and myself rode bikes along the race route, while Carrie and Max competed in the race by running.


Carrie and Max both finished in under an hour. So fast that the three of us on bikes had a hard time keeping up!
